Anthony John Templeman was appointed to the Court in October 1996.
He graduated from the University of Sheffield as an Engineer and worked in the petrochemical industry in England and Australia for six years before commencing his legal studies at the University of London., King's College. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1974 and practised in the Chancery Division until 1979 when he returned to Australia. After a period as a solicitor, he joined the Independent Bar in 1983. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1987.
He was President of the Western Australian Bar Association from 1988 to 1990 and Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Perth from 1990 to 1992. Also in 1991 and 1992 he was one of the Senior Counsel assisting the Royal Commission into the commercial activities of the Government of Western Australia.
