Narelle Johnson was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 31 July 2003. In April 2009, Justice Johnson was appointed for a three-year term as the Chairperson of the Prisoners Review Board (PRB) and the Mentally Impaired Accused Review Board (MIARB). She graduated from the University of Western Australia with a B. Juris (Hons) in 1982, LLB in 1984 and LLM in 1997.
Justice Johnson joined the Crown Solicitor's office in 1982, and remained with that office till 1994, holding the position of Senior Assistant Crown Counsel. She moved to the Independent Bar in 1994, taking chambers at the Francis Burt Chambers, and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in December 1998.
Justice Johnson was Counsel assisting the Royal Commission into the City of Wanneroo (1996 – 97); Junior Counsel assisting the Easton Royal Commission (1995); and Counsel assisting in the Coal Contract Inquiry (1994).
She was President of the WA Equal Opportunity Tribunal from 2001 – 2003; President of the Women Lawyers of WA (1997 – 2000); Director, Australian Women Lawyers in 2003; and a member of the WA Bar Association Steering Committee on Women at the Bar (2000 – 2001). She was also a member of the WA Medical Board (2001 – 2002) and on the Water Authority Board from 1994 – 1996.
