Sir Francis Burt AC, KCMG
14 June, 1918 - 8 September, 2004
Judge 1969 – 1977
Chief Justice of Western Australia 1977 – 1988
Governor of Western Australia 1990 – 1993
The Supreme Court of Western Australia mourns the death of one of the greatest jurists this State has ever produced, respected both Australia-wide and internationally for his contribution to the law.
His goal was always the simple one of administering justice according to law, with the emphasis on the achievement of a just result for all who appeared before him.
He worked hard all his life to improve access for people of all walks of life to the courts and the law.
His unparalleled commitment to public service continued upon his retirement from the Court when Sir Francis accepted an appointment as Governor of the State.
We will not soon see his like again.
All who are associated with the Supreme Court express our sincere condolences to members of Sir Francis’ family.
