29 January 2004 - New Supreme Court Judges

Two new judges of the Supreme Court of Western Australia will be sworn in next Monday,2 February, 2004.

Mr Rene Le Miere QC will be sworn in at Government House at 8.45am, with a welcoming ceremony to be held at the Supreme Court at 9.30am.

Her Honour Judge Lindy Jenkins, who is currently a judge of the District Court, will be sworn in as a Supreme Court judge at Government House at 4.30pm on Monday, with a welcoming ceremony at the Supreme Court on Tuesday, 3 February, at 9.30am.

The Honourable David K Malcolm AC, Lieutenant Governor and deputy of the Governor, will perform the swearing-in ceremonies in the Government House Dining Room.

Only one camera will be permitted at Government House to film the proceedings. Television stations are asked to make their own pooling arrangements. Sound can be used, but no lighting will be permitted. Interested media representatives should report to the security post within Government House grounds by 8.30am for the first ceremony, and 4.15pm for the second ceremony.

Two special sittings of the Full Court of the Supreme Court will be held in Court 1 to formally welcome Mr Le Miere QC and her Honour Judge Jenkins.

These ceremonies will include addresses by the Chief Justice of Western Australia, the Hon David Malcolm AC, a representative from the State Government, and representatives from the WA Bar Association and Law Society of Western Australia.

Please note that only one camera will be permitted in Courtroom 1 to film the proceedings. Television stations are asked to make their own pooling arrangements. Sound can be used, but no lighting will be permitted. Cameras should set up by 9.15 am. Pooling arrangements are not required for press photographers.
