The Hon David K Malcolm AC, Chief Justice of Western Australia, has been appointed as a non-resident judge of the Fiji Supreme Court, which is Fiji’s highest Court of Appeal.
The Chief Justice’s was informed of his three-year appointment to the highest court in Fiji by the Fijian Chief Justice the Hon D.V Fatiaki.
The President of Fiji His Excellency Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda made the appointment.
Chief Justice Malcolm said that he was honoured to be following a line of highly distinguished judges appointed to the Supreme Court of Fiji.
These have included Australia’s former Chief Justice of the High Court Sir Anthony Mason and former President of the New Zealand Court of Appeal Sir Robert Cooke,(now Lord Cooke) who was granted a British Life Peerage on his retirement.
The Supreme Court of Fiji sits twice each year – for two weeks each in May and September.
