MEDIA ALERT
The Button appeal will commence next Monday, 28 May 2001, at 10.30am in Court 1 at the Supreme Court. It has been set down for five days.
For the first time, the Court has agreed to allow limited filming, recording and press photography inside a working courtroom for use in news reports. Previously, the media has only been allowed to film or record in court for ceremonial events or documentary-style productions.
The media will be allowed into the Court for the initial 'calling on' of the matter next Monday and when the judgment is handed down at a later date.
The 'calling on' will be brief -- effectively from when the three judges enter the court, the presiding judge's associate announces the appeal, and the two counsel announce their appearances.
TV -- Channel Nine has agreed to provide the pooled vision for television, which will come from two cameras -- one placed at the rear showing the bench, the second placed at the front facing the courtroom.
RADIO and PRESS PHOTOGRAPHERS -- This coverage does not have to be pooled, but please contact me if you intend to send someone along.
We will be meeting with the sound technician from the Court on Tuesday, 22 May (tomorrow), at 9am in Court 1 to ensure any recording/location issues are resolved. For those radio stations planning to record next Monday, please ensure you send a representative tomorrow. The Channel Nine reps will also be attending.
