15 February 2001 - AUSTRALIA´S LONGEST-SERVIVING JUDGE RETIRING

MEDIA ALERT

Australia's longest-serving judge will retire next Monday, 19 February. The Full Court of the Supreme Court of Western Australia will hold a special sitting to formally farewell The Hon. Justice William Pidgeon who is retiring after almost 31 years on the bench.

Justice Pidgeon was appointed as a judge of the newly-created District Court on 1 April 1970, and was appointed to the Supreme Court in August 1982.

Court proceedings to farewell Justice Pidgeon will start at 9.30am in Courtroom 1 at the Supreme Court building.

Cameras will be permitted in the Court to film the proceedings but should be set up by 9.15am. Sound can be used, but no lighting is permitted. Please note that television cameras cannot be moved once proceedings begin.
